Cherries in Roman Times

#NationalCherryDay: In Ancient Rome, cherries were a popular fruit. It is a misconception: Lucius Licinius Lucullus visited Anatolia and discovered cherries. They existed in Roman lands in Greece before his arrival to fight in the Third Mithridatic War. What was true is that its origin came from Anatolia and was part of a Romansoldier’s ration. In Eastern Roman times, people ate cherries in June.
